So many people are uncomfortable being alone with their own thoughts. Silence feels threatening. Stillness feels like something to avoid. And so, they fill their days with distractions… noise… anything that will keep them from sitting with themselves.
Distractions come in many forms. Some are loud and obvious—scrolling endlessly through social media, binging TV shows, playing video games for hours on end. Others are more socially acceptable, even praised—overworking, constantly running errands, being the one who always says yes, always stays busy.
Even things like listening to music, podcasts, or audiobooks nonstop can become subtle ways of keeping our minds just busy enough to avoid hearing what’s underneath.
And let’s not forget emotional distractions—getting caught up in other people’s drama, micromanaging relationships, or filling our calendars so full there’s no room for stillness.
But the truth is learning to be with your own thoughts—your own energy—is one of the most powerful things you can do. When you stop avoiding yourself, you start remembering who you really are. Which, in turn, can raise your vibration.
Solitude is an invitation. An invitation to know yourself, to heal what’s ready to be healed, and to hear the whispering wisdom that only speaks when everything else goes quiet.
You don’t have to escape yourself. You were never meant to.
Start small. Turn off the background noise. Sit in silence. Breathe. Notice what thoughts arise. Be gentle with yourself. You don’t need to analyze everything. Just be with it.
There’s something sacred in your stillness. And the more time you spend there, the less you’ll need the distractions—and the more you’ll find peace in your own presence.
Love y’all,
-Lori
